Dental Lab Case Planning & Consultation for Dentists

Dental Lab Case Planning & Consultation for Complex Cases

Send the case before it becomes a problem. Prosthodontic case review on implant, full-arch, cosmetic, and complex restorative work — included with active accounts.

Most Bad Cases Are Bad Planning, Not Bad Lab Work

Most restorative cases that come back wrong did not fail at the lab. Instead, they failed at the case-planning stage — before fabrication started.

For example, the implant angulation made the screw access wrong. Or the opposing dentition was not documented. Sometimes, the library did not match the system. Other times, the bite registration was off. In some cases, the shade brief was incomplete.

A high-volume commodity lab will fabricate the case anyway and ship it on schedule. In contrast, a case-planning lab catches the issue first.

Peak Dental Studio is built for the second model. Specifically, every implant, full-arch, and complex cosmetic case at Peak goes through pre-fabrication case review with the assigned technician. Additionally, on request, cases get reviewed directly by prosthodontist Dr. Kellen McWhorter. As a result, issues are flagged back to the practice with specific questions before fabrication begins.

What Case Planning Looks Like at Peak

Pre-fabrication case review

Every implant and full-arch case is reviewed by the assigned technician against submitted records before any digital design starts. Common catches include the following.

  • Library mismatch — the wrong implant scan body for the system
  • Inadequate scan body capture — margins not captured or occlusal scan incomplete
  • Bite registration issues — patient not in centric, or premature contact undocumented
  • Material spec mismatched to indication — zirconia where e.max is right, or vice versa
  • Opposing dentition not documented on multi-unit cases

When something is off, you get a phone call before the case progresses. As a result, you avoid a remake invoice three weeks later.

Prosthodontic case consultation

Complex implant, full-arch, immediate-load, and full-mouth rehabilitation cases can be escalated to direct consultation with Dr. McWhorter. Additionally, this option is available to active accounts on request. Schedule via email or phone.

Surgical-restorative coordination

For All-on-X and immediate-load cases, the lab coordinates with your surgical schedule. Specifically, this includes pre-staged provisional fabrication, conversion-day technician availability by phone, and case review before, during, and after conversion.

We do not drop the case at the surgical appointment. Instead, we are on the line if you need us. For more, see All-on-X Dental Lab and Signature Full Arch.

Treatment planning materials for case acceptance

We provide diagnostic wax-ups, digital smile previews, and 3D-printed mock-ups for chairside try-in. As a result, patients who see the projected outcome at the consult accept treatment at higher rates. Furthermore, they have lower buyer’s remorse post-delivery. Our case-planning workflow supports this directly.

For more on this workflow, see Diagnostic Wax-Ups & Treatment Planning and the Cosmetic Dental Lab page.

Cases That Benefit Most from Lab Case Planning

Case Type What Case Planning Catches
Implant restorations Library mismatch, scan body issues, screw-access angulation, custom abutment requirements
Full-arch / All-on-X Multi-unit abutment selection, framework verification needs, immediate-load conversion logistics, opposing dentition documentation
Multi-unit anterior cosmetics Diagnostic wax-up requirement, shade communication protocol, mock-up timing, esthetic outcome alignment
Full-mouth rehabilitation Vertical dimension, occlusal scheme, sequence planning, material selection across arches
Immediate dentures + immediate-load Pre-staging timing, conversion materials, post-extraction healing accommodation
Re-do or remake of failed restoration Why the original failed, what to change, how to verify the fix before fabrication

For implant-specific case planning depth, also see our Signature Implant Restorations page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Peak offer case planning consultation?

Yes. Pre-fabrication case review is standard on all implant, full-arch, and complex restorative cases. Additionally, direct prosthodontist consultation is available on request for the most complex cases.

Is case planning included or charged separately?

Pre-fabrication case review is included for active accounts on implant, full-arch, and complex restorative work. Furthermore, prosthodontist case consultation is available on request — coordinated through customer support.

Can I talk to a technician before submitting a complex case?

Yes. Call (801) 850-8758 or email support@peakdentalstudio.com to schedule a coordination call before submission. We would rather catch a planning issue before fabrication than after.

What’s the most common case-planning issue Peak catches?

Implant library mismatch and inadequate scan body capture. Both are catchable in pre-fabrication review. Furthermore, both cause failed seating if missed.

How does case planning support All-on-X and immediate-load cases?

For All-on-X cases, the lab pre-stages conversion materials and coordinates with the surgical schedule. Additionally, we provide on-call technician availability during the surgical appointment. Pre-fabrication review verifies multi-unit abutment selection, framework requirements, and conversion-day logistics.

Do you offer surgical guide planning?

Surgical guide design is not Peak’s primary product line. However, we coordinate with surgical guide labs (or your existing guide planning provider). Then, we use the resulting guide to inform restorative case planning.

Does Peak review cases that are remakes from another lab?

Yes. Send the failed restoration, the original case records, and a description of what failed. Specifically, pre-fabrication review identifies what changed in the workflow and how the new case will be specified to fix it.

How do I escalate a case to Dr. McWhorter?

Email support@peakdentalstudio.com with case details and request prosthodontist consultation. As noted earlier, this is available to active accounts for complex implant, full-arch, immediate-load, and full-mouth rehabilitation cases.

Do you serve practices nationwide for case planning?

Yes. Peak ships nationwide from Pleasant Grove, Utah. Furthermore, we provide case-planning consultation by phone, email, and video for any practice in the U.S. Multi-location and DSO programs are supported.

Schedule a Case Consultation

If you have a case in front of you that you are unsure about, call us before you submit. Specifically, this applies to implant angulation, multi-unit anterior, immediate-load full-arch, or full-mouth rehab.

The cost of catching a planning issue before fabrication is zero. In contrast, the cost of catching it at delivery is a remake, lost chair time, and a patient who waited two extra weeks.
